To better prepare future healthcare professionals, an intelligent virtual trainer trains, informs and coaches learners in delivering bad news.
Faced with the observation that healthcare professionals are poorly trained in delivering bad news to patients, the University of Bordeaux’s health college decided to conduct a study to determine whether learning using an ACA (Animated Conversational Agent) is as effective as learning by simulation with an actor. The objective is therefore to build an experimental e-learning module, the aim of which will be to validate the superiority of the autonomous learning method, accompanied by an intelligent virtual agent.
The main problem to be solved lies in the challenge of making virtual content human. The emotions, the character’s animations, or even the 3D modeling of the latter are all determining factors in the user’s empathetic approach to the virtual assistant. Its question-and-answer game must also be carefully worked on in order to appear as natural as possible.
